Bernard H. Mizel

Bernard Mizel has been the most significant aggregator of middle market insurance brokerages in the US. Having transacted over 370 acquisitions throughout his career, he has driven the development of three brokerages to the top ten largest in the nation.
 
In the late 1970's, Mr. Mizel created one of the largest West Coast Regional brokerages when he led the acquisition of Albert M. Bender Company to Bache Inc. Leading the company as President with a seat on the Board of Directors, he oversaw the distribution of life insurance and financial planning through a national sales force of over five thousand producers. Mr. Mizel later oversaw US Operation when Bache was acquired by international Jardine Mathison, headquartered in Hong Kong.
 
In the early 1980s, Mr. Mizel formed American Business Insurance Brokers in partnership with American Financial Corporation, Cincinnati, Ohio. In three years it ranked within the top ten brokerages in the country. American Business Insurance Brokers was renamed Accordia when it was sold to Anthem Blue Cross and is now known as Wells Fargo Insurance Brokers.
 
In the 1990s Mr. Mizel raised capital with Saratoga Partners to launch USI, again leading the development of one of the ten largest brokerages in the US. The company was subsequently taken public and then purchased by Goldman Sachs.
 
In 2003 Mr. Mizel became the Chairman of the Board of CCI Financial and Insurance Services. Through CCI and their SingleSource solutions, Mr. Mizel is delivering his vision of a customer-centric delivery of fully integrated financial and insurance services.
 
Mr. Mizel received his B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley and was an officer in the US Army Reserve. He is active in many philanthropic activities including a seat on the Board of the Oakland Symphony and the Oakland Youth Orchestra.
